Abstract | Forest fires are increasing in dimension and frequency across the tropics. Remotely sensed data present as an important role in monitoring tropical cover changes. However, that region is frequently covered by cloud which compromises its observation. In this way, synthetic aperture radar (SAR) demonstrates as an useful tool to work in cooperation with optical sensors. Thus, JERS-1 SAR mosaics provided by the Global Rain Forest Mapping (GRFM) were utilized to study the applicability of radar data in the burned areas in the Brazilian Amazon regions. Preliminary results showed satisfactory outcomes. |
